Posted below are the three discussions questions:

 

What position would Darwin take with respect to the validity and usefulness of the concept of race?

 

Morgan and Tylor use ethnographic data about living peoples to reconstruct early stages of a "universal history of mankind." How do they justify this "comparative method?" Which of their arguments do you think are valid?

 

Tylor spends the first pages "The Science of Culture" arguing against the idea of free will. Why does he think free will is incompatible with a science of culture? Do you agree?
